Just Breathe

Well, it’s been a while since I’ve taken time to participate in Kate’s 5 Minute Friday. My writing life has been on hold for a bit, but I guess it’s time to BREATHE and come on back.

And, to top it off, I’ve given my website a fresh facelift. Browse around and let me know what you think. Seriously, comments are welcome.

So, as always, we start this 5 minute exercise with a word prompt and then write for five minutes. When I read the word for the week, I just couldn’t pass it up to follow through and write on it, BREATHE. That is the word.

This has been a crazy year, has it not? Whatever you thought should have happened, it didn’t, and whatever you didn’t think should have happened, well, it did.

So what do we do with this crazy year 2020? ~ We just BREATHE.

When we watch things happening on TV, and we can’t believe our eyes ~We just BREATHE.

When we repeat the phrase over and over, “I’ve never thought I’d see something like this happening in my generation.” ~ We just BREATHE.

And the worst one, when you get all the way to the door of the grocery store and you suddenly realize, “I forgot my mask,” and you have to walk all the way back to your car and get it ~ just BREATHE.

You know, there is something about taking a deep breath, holding it for the count of five and exhaling. It brings something. It brings peace.

Years ago, I struggled with high blood pressure. During that time, I learned one of the ways to help bring my pressure down was to just BREATHE. I listened to advice, read article after article, and that was one of the suggestions. Inhale through your nose, hold it till the count of five, then exhale slowly and repeat it three or four times.

Actually, it did help. And, since it did, that is my advice to you today. When the merry-go-round of life seems to be spinning out of control and you just want it to stop for a bit ~ Remember … just BREATHE.

STOP … Well, my five minutes are up in this exercise, but to conclude, click on the link below and listen to this wonderful song by Johnny Diaz. It helped me during my struggle and I pray it will help you too. Remember, God’s got this. Just BREATHE!

Thanks so much for stopping by … And as always, God Bless and please be safe in all you do. Your comments are always welcome to encourage another on this journey called life!

  1. Del, it’s so good to see you here again!

I woner if we can use our breath as a force for good?

Just breathe when all seems hopeless,
breathe through a world gone mad,
    breathe when life seems bogus,
    when joy’s in sack-cloth clad.
Breathe in the scent of monsters,
    breathe out fragrance of peace,
    for Satan’s an impostor
and you can quell the beast
by letting God flow through you
    with every breath you take,
with every breath turn lie to true,
    and every breath will make
the world inch through a golden door,
and be bit better than before.

      1. Thank you, Del, for coming back with the 5 Minute Friday Word. “Just Breathe” is what we need at this hour. There is so much unrest in the nation, sickness from Covid and other diseases, and our hearts cry out for our families. It’s widespread and it’s personal. The added lyrics were a Godsend, as I had missed part of what the song was saying. God bless and looking forward to more posts.

        1. Thanks so much, Marty… Yep, so much unrest, but yes, we just need to breathe through it all. God Bless..

  2. Thank you my sister, my friend. A river that flows downstream and yet upstream, that what Jesus does for us. Love you so much!
