Jesus prepared for His warfare with the devil through prayer and fasting. When it came time for Him to engage the enemy on the battlefield, He chose the most effective weapon: The Sacred Scripture, the powerful Word of God.
Satan himself tried to wield that weapon, but it didn’t work, and Jesus skillfully won the assault, turning the blade back upon him.
Each time the devil tried to attack with the temptation to doubt or disobey God, Jesus quoted Scripture. After three failed attempts, the enemy withdrew. We see this In Matthew 4: 1-11.
” The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:2-3
We are in a battle for our Nation like never before. When we listen to the news, things are escalating out of control. We are inundated with nonstop TV commercials, social media posts, and news anchors talking about the election nonstop. One station reports that one candidate is in the lead, whereas another reports the opposite. What do we believe? What is a lie, and what is truth? We know this battle for our country is good vs. evil, but how do we fight this battle?
We do the same as Jesus did in the desert with Satan. We keep our eyes on the prize. We keep our eyes on the Lord. Even though what we hear might cause us to fear, we must bring ourselves back to the Word of God just like Jesus did. We must keep our eyes on The Lord to keep us from fear of the unknown.
We can find scriptures that give us hope, scriptures that reveal to us who God is, and bury them in our hearts. Then, when fear and confusion come at us, we wield the scriptures and defeat the lies of the enemy that try to break us down day by day by day.
